® A Day in the Life: Cocaine

I am deeply thankful that I have not been lured into drug use. And even more so after experiencing people in the motorcycle business controlled by drugs, of which there seem to be many. I once wrenched at a Honda dealership whose general manager lunged over his desk at me. A quiet person by nature, I was stunned immobile. At another time in my career a drug-impaired boss ripped his glasses off his face and screamed at me. I knew I was looking into the face of an addict, no question about it. And while educational, it was also sickeningly frightful. And then there was the GM who imperiously held court from his office, never mixing with the plebes, but officiously handing down edicts while sneering arrogantly, aloof and self-consciously supreme commander like some vile, all-powerful mafioso. The shop was a teeming, inefficient mess, destined a few years later to self-destruct, and this man was responsible for all of it. Yes, I have witnessed the behavior of cocaine users. I hope for the last time. Shudder.
